Time to support hospitality sector

A trend that must become the norm - for some time restaurants and leisure concepts have been publicly committing to sustainability pledges and reducing their carbon footprints. Shaftesbury’s partnership with Project Zero, to make Carnaby the most ocean-friendly destination in London, is one such initiative. Synergy between landlords and operators is vital in making valuable change and it is encouraging to see steps being taken by landlords to equally make their estates more sustainable and environmentally friendly.

We were interested to hear that as part of their ongoing commitment to reducing emissions and vehicle congestion, The Crown Estate will introduce a purpose-built electric vehicle, Volta Zero, to the West End this year. The vehicle will consolidate deliveries to their Regent Street tenants, reducing congestion emissions and improving air quality.

Across town, Borough Market has become a beacon for ethical, sustainable practices, both as an institution and through the actions of its traders. The market now has rigorous criteria in place for becoming a tenant, which ensures that all operators reflect their intentions and sustainability values.
