Mexico City is known for being urban concrete jungle, with parkland and green spaces few and far between. Recognising the drastic need in his hometown to help purify the polluted smoggy air, the architect Fernando Ortiz Monasterio came up with the VerdeVertical project in 2007 to help fight this.
Refettorio Felix was launched in London in 2017, led by Chef Massimo Bottura’s non-profit organisation Food for Soul in partnership with St Cuthbert’s Centre, Kensington. This project works with designer Ilse Crawford and tireless efforts of The Felix Project.
In Brixton, a Community Fridge has been installed by a group of food activists and traders who were inspired by similar Community Fridge schemes in India, Spain, Germany and closer to London in Somerset.
The fitness industry currently employs 188,000 people in the UK and in 2016 the aggregate revenue of UK gyms was reportedly £4.6billion. With annual growth rates of more than 14%, this is projected to grow to a staggering £8.8billion by 2020.
